PA Profile September 2009James Love, PA-C
James Love, PA-C and his Boat Irish Lady Jim came to Maine in 1983 after receiving his medical training from the University of North Dakota and working for two years in family practice in North Dakota. His career in Maine began in the far north, spending two years in St. Francis and Fort Fairfield before moving to Pittsfield in 1986 where he joined the Emergency Room medical staff at Sebasticook Valley Hospital. From 2001 to the present he has been employed by Sebasticook Family Doctors working in four different rural sites in Canaan, Detroit, Pittsfield and Newport. Jim has advocated for providing alternative clinic hours to meet the needs of patients, and has himself worked almost every Saturday (except during vacations) so patients can have access to medical care without missing time from work and losing out on wages. He has an open clinic policy, and if a patient appears at his clinic without an appointment he will work that patient in regardless of how busy he might be. Jim is instrumental in providing training to new clinicians in his practice, always in a supportive manner that makes the new employees feel welcome. He helped to institute a new scheduling method in the practice that resulted in lessening the waiting times for patients. Everyone in his practice feels supportive of Jim’s attention and is grateful for his tutelage.Jim has been involved in his community with a walking and wellness program, enjoys bike riding, skiing and ice skating with family and friends, and has even built his own sailboat. It is with great pleasure that I present the 2009 Rural Physician Assistant of the Year Award to James Love, PA-C. Past Profiles:Noel J.
